2026 Young People's Concerts:
Discover Your WV Symphony
One of the WVSO's strongest initiatives, the Young People’s Concert Series reaches thousands of students annually. Students from schools and programs across the region and state are bussed in to enjoy these concerts at different locations around the state. Join Maestro Maurice Cohn and the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra for a live musical adventure. Concert lasts 50 minutes.
Why does a piccolo sound different than a tuba? What, really, is the difference between a violin and a viola? And most important of all, how do all these carefully crafted bits of wood and metal come together to create music full of stories, emotions, and excitement? Featuring a grand sweep of musical history, from Johann Strauss composing in 19th -century Vienna, Austria, to Nicky Sohn, whose piece “Is this the happiest place on Earth?” was written just last year in Houston, TX, our concert welcomes all students into the incredible world of orchestral music.
