West Virginia Symphony Orchestra Announces Upgraded WVSO Kid’s Website

CHARLESTON, W.VA. (8/25/21) – The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra (WVSO) is excited to share its newly updated WVSO educational website – wvsokids.org.

“We are so excited to share the new WVSO educational website,” said Betty King, Vice President of Education and Operations. “We hope that the resources available will be an aid to students and teachers alike as they explore all that classical music and the WVSO have to offer our state and community.”

The revamped website was built by Associated Systems Professionals (ASP) in South Charleston with the help of Music Director Lawrence Loh, WVSO Education staff and committee members. This WVSO kid-friendly website aims to share content to students and teachers surrounding classical music, the instruments involved, and lessons and activities associated with Young People’s Concerts performed by the WVSO.

Featured throughout the website are innovative learning tools, such as an interactive map of the structure of the orchestra. The clickable map features each instrument family and includes descriptions, photos, and even the sound samples of individual instruments in the orchestra.

Using the website, teachers and students can easily make reservations for upcoming WVSO performances on the website as well as gain access to special opportunities to see the orchestra in action, like open rehearsals and in-school performances.

Additionally, resources for student musicians are available, including information about local youth symphonies, private music lessons, and the WVSO’s String Educator partnership with Kanawha County Schools.

The WVSO is West Virginia’s premier performing arts organization, presenting classical, pops, family and chamber-music concerts annually throughout the Mountain State. Currently entering its 83rd season, the WVSO is a proud member of the community and enriches the region by providing affordable, high-quality concerts, collaborations with West Virginia arts organizations and a nationally award-winning education program.
