West Virginia Symphony Orchestra presents Blockbuster Adventures

CHARLESTON, W.VA. (3/15/23) - The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra (WVSO) presents the final offering in this season’s ZMM Architects & Engineers Pops Series, Blockbuster Adventures on Saturday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m. in Charleston and Sunday, March 26 at 2:30 p.m. in Parkersburg.

Guest conductor Troy Peters joins the WVSO as the orchestra explores the music from our favorite blockbuster films, including pieces from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Star Trek, and more! The Marshall University Orchestra appears as a special guest for a side-by-side during the first two pieces of the concert: Silbelius’ Finlandia and the theme from Pirates of the Caribbean.

Peters is currently the Director of the UTSA Orchestra at the University of Texas San Antonio and Music Director of Youth Orchestras of San Antonio. Peters is also active as a composer, and he holds degrees from the Curtis Institute of Music and the University of Pennsylvania, where his primary compositional mentors were Ned Rorem and West Virginia native George Crumb.

The ZMM Architects and Engineers Pops Series concert on Saturday, March 25 is made possible by the generous support of City National Bank and the WV Lottery. The Symphony Raffle drawing will take place immediately following the conclusion of Blockbuster Adventures. Tickets for the annual Raffle are $100, and ticket buyers have the chance to win the grand prize $10,000 or 14 other prizes, all while supporting the Symphony.  The WVSO will also perform Blockbuster Adventures at Blennerhassett School in Parkersburg beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 26. Hosted by the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra of Parkersburg, tickets for the concert start at $25 for adults or $10 for students and are available at wvsop.org, at the door, or by calling 888.699.8767 (MYWVSOP).
