West Virginia Symphony presents Hometown Horn

CHARLESTON, W.VA. (9/29/23) – The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra (WVSO) continues its 2023-24 season with Hometown Horn on Oct. 14 at the Clay Center in Charleston.

Guest conductor Andrew Constantine will lead the WVSO through a program that begins with Ethel Smyth’s Overture to the Boatswain’s Mate, while the WVSO Principal horn and WVU Music Professor Albert Houde takes the spotlight with a feature in Glière’s Concerto for Horn. The program closes with a performance of Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2.

"I can’t wait to present Glière’s magnificent Concerto for Horn and Orchestra with our West Virginia Symphony in a few short weeks – thrilled doesn’t even begin to describe it!” said WVSO Principal Horn and guest soloist Albert Houde. “I hope to see you all there!"

The Elliot Foundation Symphonic Series concert is made possible by the generous support of the Elliot Foundation and Manpower. Concert-only tickets start at $14 and are available at wvsymphony.org or by calling 304.561.3570.

The WVSO invites all concert attendees to enjoy a free, pre-concert talk beginning at 6:30 p.m. on the Clay Center stage. In addition to the pre-concert talk, patrons can enjoy a pre-concert musical performance from members of SCORCH: Kanawha County Combined High School Orchestra, thanks to support from Manpower.

Embassy Suites will once again offer reservations for a pre-concert buffet to be held on site at the Clay Center. The price of dinner is $39.95/person, plus gratuity and taxes. Reservations begin two hours prior to the start of the concert and can be made by contacting the Clay Center Box Office in person or via phone at (304) 561-3570.

The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra is West Virginia’s premier performing arts organization, presenting classical and pops concerts annually throughout the Mountain State. Currently in its 85th season, the WVSO is a proud member of the community and enriches the region by providing affordable, high-quality concerts, collaborations with West Virginia arts organizations and a nationally award-winning education program.
