West Virginia Symphony Orchestra Announces ‘Pay What You Wish’ Concert for January 15 at Clay Center
/CHARLESTON, W.Va. (1/5/22) – The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra (WVSO) is excited to announce its Winter Stories performance on Saturday, Jan. 15 at the Clay Center as “Pay What You Wish”.
Guest Mélisse Brunet will lead the orchestra in the first Elliot Foundation Symphonic Series performance of 2022, as WVSO Music Director Lawrence Loh was recently diagnosed with a breakthrough case of COVID-19 and is experiencing mild symptoms.
“I’m so thankful to have been fully vaccinated and boosted, as I’m experiencing a very mild case of illness,” said Loh. “I look forward to being back with everyone in February for our next scheduled concert.”
Winter Stories begins with a side by side with members of the WV Youth Symphony for a performance Beethoven’s Overture to Fidelio. The Winter Stories concert continues as guest flute and Astral Artist, Annie Wu takes the stage with the WVSO for the WV-debut of contemporary composer Kevin Puts’ Flute Concerto, while Schumann’s Symphony No. 2 closes the concert.
The performance on Saturday, Jan. 15 is made possible by the generous support of the Elliot Foundation, Jim & Keith Straw, and AC&S Incorporated.
Patrons are invited to join a free talk prior to the performance to discuss the evening’s repertoire beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Clay Center performance hall.
In order to maintain the health and safety of the WVSO’s patrons, musicians, and staff, for all patrons over the age of 2, masks will be required to be worn for the duration of the concert, regardless of vaccination status. Additionally, the WVSO asks that attendees try to maintain a distance between others while in common spaces, such as the Ticketing Lobby, Grand Lobby, bathrooms, etc. The WVSO encourages all eligible individuals to get vaccinated to reduce the potential of unknowingly spreading COVID-19.
