/CHARLESTON, W.VA. (11/15/21) - Students across the state will experience the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra (WVSO) live as it presents Music Without Borders, a Young People’s Concert written especially for children on Nov. 16 and 17 at the Culture Center at the Capitol Complex in Charleston.
WVSO Music Director Lawrence Loh will lead the WVSO in performing works by classic composers Dvorak, Glinka, Mozart and William Grant Still, as well as pieces by modern composers Joan Tower and Arturo Marquez. Supplemental classroom materials for these special concerts that bind classical music with other school subjects also are available online at WVSOKids.org.
Additional support by the EQT Foundation opens the concert possibility to students statewide via live streaming.
“We are honored to help bring the sounds and sights of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra into classrooms and homes across the state, and across the country,” said Ellen Rossi, President of the EQT Foundation. “During these unprecedented times when we are just starting to ease back into being able to see performances in-person, having the virtual options continues to be such an asset to educators and families who will still be able to appreciate and learn from the music performed.”
Music Without Borders is possible due to generous support from the EQT Foundation, Bernard H. & Blanche E. Jacobson Foundation, Daywood Foundation Inc., Herscher Foundation, Katharine B. Tierney Charitable Foundation, Fund for the Arts, FirstEnergy Foundation, Kanawha County Schools, National Endowment for the Arts and the West Virginia Department of Arts Culture and History.
