WV Symphony presents Welsh, folk-modern band Calan on stage with the WVSO

CHARLESTON, W.VA. (9/29/22) – The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra (WVSO) welcomes Welsh folk-modern band Calan to the stage on Saturday, Oct. 15 as a collaboration with FOOTMAD.

On Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Clay Center in Charleston, Conductor Emeritus Grant Cooper returns to the stage with the WVSO and Welsh band, Calan, for a night of traditional Welsh folk music with a modern twist.

A recent review from Yahoo! Music concerning Calan said, “Welsh-based band CALAN may have its music anchored in ancient roots — traditional Welsh music incorporating accordion, fiddle, pipes, and harp — but the sound has translated to a modern audience on a grand scale.”

This performance is brought to the stage with a collaboration with FOOTMAD, the Kanawha Valley Friends of Old Time Music and Dance.

The ZMM Architects & Engineers Pops Series concert is made possible by the generous support of the WV Manufacturer’s Association, Ghosh Engineers, Energy Services of America Corporation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the WV Department of Arts, Culture, and History, and Fund for the Arts. Concert-only tickets start at $19 and are available at wvsymphony.org or by calling 304.561.3570.
