West Virginia Symphony Orchestra announces Maier Foundation “A Look Behind the Curtain…”
/CHARLESTON, W.VA. (9/30/22) – The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra (WVSO) welcomes area college students to apply to the newly founded Maier Foundation “A Look Behind the Curtain…” program which begins on Saturday, Oct. 15.
Thanks to funding from the Maier Foundation, the WVSO has created a new music preparedness program for current undergraduate and graduate college students studying music and/or those interested in arts administration or management who plan on pursuing a career in performance, conducting, arts administration or management, etc.
Beginning with a session at the WVSO’s upcoming concert with Welsh folk-modern band Calan on Oct. 15, students are encouraged to join the WVSO for a day and learn what it is like to work as a professional musician or staff member for a symphony orchestra. Participants will sit in on a rehearsal, have a question-and-answer session with a musician, conductor, or staff member, and receive up to 2 free tickets for the concert that evening.
“The Maier Foundation is excited to fund the program in conjunction with the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra,” said Maier Foundation President Brad Rowe. “It is our hope that this program will expand the learning opportunities for students in higher education, as well as allow them to gain real-world experience.”
There will be four installments on this program throughout the 2022-23 season with additional dates on Saturday, Nov. 19, Saturday, March 11, and Saturday, March 25. Students are encouraged to attend as many sessions as fits their schedule.
