West Virginia Symphony Orchestra announces Respect: A Tribute to Aretha Franklin on May 7 to replace May 3 concert
/CHARLESTON, W.Va. (3/18/22) – The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra (WVSO) announces the cancellation of Michael Bolton: Symphony Sessions that was to be co-presented with the Clay Center for the Arts & Sciences of WV on Tuesday, May 3. The final show of the ZMM Architects and Engineers Pops Series will be replaced with a performance of Respect: A Tribute to Aretha Franklin on Saturday, May 7 at 7:30 pm at the Clay Center.
“Due to conflicts with television filming schedules, Michael Bolton: Symphony Sessions has unfortunately been cancelled, but we are thrilled to provide our patrons with an exciting offering in its place,” said WVSO President Joe Tackett. “Respect: A Tribute to Aretha Franklin will bring the songbook of the musical legend to stage in Charleston to finish our 2021/22 ZMM Architects and Engineers Pops Season.”
Respect: A Tribute to Aretha Franklin celebrates the singer, icon, and activist for an evening of soulful music. Talented vocalists, including two-time Grammy award winner Tamika Lawrence, will take the stage alongside the WVSO to perform Ms. Franklin’s anthology of hits which led to eighteen Grammy awards and a designation from Rolling Stone as “the greatest singer of all time”.
Patrons who currently have tickets to Michael Bolton: Symphony Sessions will receive tickets by mail to Respect: A Tribute to Aretha Franklin. Refunds or exchanges can be requested by contacting the Clay Center Box Office in person or phone at 304.561.3570.
The ZMM Architects & Engineers Pops Series concert will be held on Saturday, May 7 at 7:30 pm at the Clay Center for the Arts & Sciences in WV and is made possible with additional support from the WV Lottery and the WV Manufacturers Association. In order to maintain the health and safety of the WVSO’s patrons, musicians, and staff, for all patrons over the age of 2, masks will be required to be worn for the duration of the concert, regardless of vaccination status. Additionally, the WVSO asks that attendees try to maintain a distance between others while in common spaces, such as the Ticketing Lobby, Grand Lobby, bathrooms, etc. The WVSO encourages all eligible individuals to get vaccinated to reduce the potential of unknowingly spreading COVID-19.
