West Virginia Symphony Orchestra presents Handel’s Messiah featuring WV Symphony Chorus Dec. 18
/CHARLESTON, W.VA. (12/10/21) - The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra (WVSO), the WV Symphony Chorus and the Marshall University Chamber Choir will take the Clay Center stage for an epic performance of Handel’s Messiah on Saturday, Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
WV Symphony Chorus Conductor David Castleberry leads the orchestra and singers through the favorite holiday tradition, with performances by guest soloists, Carline Waugh, Elisabeth Baer, Alexander Lee, and Daniel Washington, and musicians Jayson Keeton, organ, and David Donathan, harpsichord. The WV Symphony Chorus and Marshall University Chamber Choir will perform Messiah Parts I and II, including the famous “Hallelujah Chorus.”
“The WV Symphony Chorus is thrilled to be back, strong and ready, presenting Handel’s Messiah with the WVSO,” said Conductor David Castleberry. “After eighteen months apart, this concert expresses the joy of community, of making live music together, and perseverance in the face of challenging times. Sharing this concert is an important moment for us and, we hope, for Charleston.”
The performance on Saturday, Dec. 18 is made possible by the generous support of the United Methodist Foundation of West Virginia, Damous Psychological Services, and Brewer and Co. of WV. In order to maintain the health and safety of the WVSO’s patrons, musicians, and staff, for all patrons over the age of 2, masks will be required to be worn for the duration of the concert, regardless of vaccination status. Additionally, the WVSO asks that attendees try to maintain a distance between others while in common spaces, such as the Ticketing Lobby, Grand Lobby, bathrooms, etc. The WVSO encourages all eligible individuals to get vaccinated to reduce the potential of unknowingly spreading COVID-19.
