CHARLESTON, W.VA. (3/3/17) – Journey through the 60's with a catalogue of The Beatles' hits featuring Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, When I'm Sixty-Four, and more! The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra (WVSO) is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the release of The Beatles’ eighth studio album, which was an immediate commercial and critical success, spending 27 weeks at the top of the albums chart in the United Kingdom and 15 weeks at No. 1 in the United States. Join the WVSO on Saturday, March, 18, in Charleston or Sunday, March 19, in Parkersburg as it brings the beloved Beatles’ hits to life in concert with Maestro Grant Cooper conducting.

Cooper, who was a teenager when the Beatles first came to America, said it is an honor and a blessing to be part of recreating some of The Beatles’ timeless songs. “Perhaps the most amazing thing about coming of age in that decade of the 60's, was that The Beatles were happening in our own time,” Cooper said. “Each new song came out and hit us anew with its poignant relevancy to our own lives.  The Beatles gave our generation a voice.”

“As their music became more complex. moving from sugary pop to social commentary, so did the musical means intensify - The Beatles' use of a symphony orchestra had become routine by the time of Sgt. Pepper.  And so, to most fully recreate these timeless songs, the marriage of Pop Group with Symphony Orchestra has become the most natural of partnerships,” he said.
